You may be wondering if its okay to rock workout bottoms outside the gym, and I’m here to tell you yes! We all love our leggings and appreciate it’s simplicity and comfort. But summer has arrived, and I want to talk to you about it’s counterpart: the bike short. This body-con bottom has become more than just a staple for cycling or exercising. It’s a fabulous trend you can easily dress up or dress down. I put together 5 outfit ideas to style your bike shorts to make them a versatile piece in your wardrobe.
1. Denim Jacket
One thing I love about denim jackets is they add texture to any ensemble and is the perfect layer for a summer vibe. I added a headband and gold jewelry to give it a more stylish and put together look.
2. Flannel
If your wardrobe is on the darker side then you might like this one. I tossed on a flannel and combat boots to keep it casual with a slight edge. Wear your favorite sunnies and there you have it! An “I don’t care but care about my outfit” kind of mood lol.
3. Blazer
This one is probably my favorite. Throwing on a structured blazer over your fitted shorts gives you a chic and polished attire. It’s unexpected but it works! You can also pair it with a low heel sandal to dress it up but I love the contrast between a feminine and grunge look so I opted for a pink blazer with my combat boots.
4. Boyfriend (or husband) button up
When I’m bored with my wardrobe, I like to rummage through my husbands closet. Guy’s button ups are the easiest pieces to style and also saves you from spending money on an oversized top lol. I took his dress shirt, tied the ends into a knot, threw on some white high-top sneakers and voilà!
5. Crop top/ baggy sweater
When you want to dress comfy but still cute, a bright colored oversized sweater or crop top will do the trick. The cool thing about bike shorts is that when you pair it with a loose top, it still adds shape to your body so your outfit doesn’t swallow you up. If you’re having a bad hair day you can throw on a bucket hat, which is a trend I’m also loving at the moment.
There you have it! 5 easy looks to style your bike shorts. When in doubt, what I found works best and is most flattering are these key takeaways:
- High-top shoes
- Accessories, accessories, accessories! (hat, jewelry, scrunchies, etc.)
- Keep your tops oversized and bike shorts at mid thigh to knee length
I hope this inspires you to take this trend on a spin and get creative with styling your workout bottoms. I’d love to see what looks you come up with so tag me on Instagram @catherinellaine! Have a wonderful day you guys and I’ll catch you on next weeks blog post.
Love,
